It's been a long time since I rock and rolled...

So, I know it has been FOREVER since my last one, but life became
rapidly occupied and, without constant access to the internet, it is
hard to keep up.

The organization is nearing completion. After losing my helper, I
reorganized some of the shoes, since I was not quite satisfied with
how they were before. Then Gypsy concluded and the room went back
into shambles because whoever struck the costumes just piled them in a
corner and put stuff here and there. Oh well, so it goes.

After getting that mess mostly sorted out, I asked the Costumes
Mistress to come in and see all that we had accomplished thus far.
She seemed rather impressed, liking the fact the we had sized all the
pants and skirts and ordered them neatly in paper sacks, which, I must
say, are really quite durable. She had been concerned about this idea
before, but seeing as how we fit all the sacks into the totes and had
enough room and more bags for expansion, she was pleased. She offered
a few comments on the hats and jackets, which I had been puzzling over
for sometime, since there were more jackets then there was room. The
solution was a bit of shifting and accommodating for the over
abundance...plus throwing out some truly awful specimens.

After she helped me a bit, it was time for a mini vacation, where I
took off a week and a half to go down to San Francisco, which was
lovely, and helped my grandmother around the house.

When I got back, the next show was in the middle of it's process and I
assisted with finding some articles of clothing for the costume
designer and director. They also seemed impressed with my work and
vowed to try to keep it up after I left. I really do hope they
attempt to, but knowing how it goes, I at least hope my efforts will
last until the end of next season.

My time at this theatre is nearing the end. I still have some period
costumes to finish up, but after that, I believe I shall have to bid
adieu to this nice little theatre in Nor Cal. Although I haven't
accomplished and finished everything I set out to do, at least you can
walk around the costume shop without jumping over piles on the floor.
I shall hopefully have one or two more posts before the end, so we
shall see!

Au revoir pour le moment.

So it has been a really, really long time...

This is my second email message and again, I hope this is working. As
I believe I previously stated, my Grammy, who I am living with, does
not have the internet, which I know is hard to believe, but it is
true.

Anywho, I've been working away at the costume shop at NCRT 2-3 days a
week. Unfortunately, my helper Emily has left me, which will slow
down my progress greatly from now on, but oh well, I at least had her
helping for a while! We have a very nice plan of how the shop will be
set up and have finished one wall completely, which was quite the
accomplishment in itself. I don't believe I've ever seen that many
pairs of men's pants in my life...then again, I'm not a man, lol.

I was able to see the last show at NCRT, which was Gyspy (I'd italize
or underline this, but I can't on my phone). I have now seen that
show three times...and I'd rank this one #2 out of 3, since I believe
ours was much, much better. They did do a really good job for a
community theatre though. The talent was pretty good, with the actors
who played Herbie and Tulsa standing out the most. Their costumes
were well-planned, with all appearing to be from the same period. The
set was basic but efficient. I will say one thing I greatly enjoyed
was while they were doing set changes, they had vaudeville-esque acts
go on in front of the curtain and they were phenominal! Overall, I
enjoyed the performance.

My next area of work will be with dresses, which is the next wall
over. I believe the plan is to sort by size and then by long and
short and then by color, but we shall see. I really need to get the
costume shop's leader in so she can tell me if she is liking what we
are doing.

Well, au revoir from Nor. Cal for now!

So...this is an attempt via email cus my Grammy doesn't have internet...

So NCRT, aka North Coast Repertory Theatre, is going well. I've been
in twice because of a family emergency on the part of the artistic
director of the theatre. However, we've gotten started on the
organizing of the "cage," or where the lock up the costumes so none
end up disappearing. I have a girl assisting me in my task. She is a
senior in high school who wants to be a stage manager eventually. But
thank god she is helping me because the cage is a MESS! We walked in
and there was barely any room to walk. There were piles of clothes
almost as tall as me in areas. However, within the past two days, we
have cleaned up the piles, put the clothes in their respective areas,
and started labeling sizes. Next step is to just keep labeling and
sorting, type by type, gender by gender. I'll have the next 5 days
off because I'm visiting my uncles, my aunt, and my two lil cousins.
Anyway, hope this works and til next time!

Vive le Californie!

California

So I have reached California. The weather varies between sunny and warm-ish (about 70 degrees) and rain. But hey, that's Northern California for you. I am to officially begin my internship next week, which will be nice, because I've been kind of bored the past few days. I have seen the outside of the theatre and I am really looking forward to getting started.

A description of what I'll be doing:

I will be assisting with the organization of the costumes by era and props by type. Since I actually do enjoy organizing things, I think I will like this. After completing this, I will be assigned to do whatever is needed. The people there seem to be really cool people and I look forward to getting to work with them.

The theatre is called the North Coast Repetory Theatre in Eureka, CA. Here is a link to their website: http://www.ncrt.net/. It is a small theatre, but I think it will be funsies. Well, until the next time. Au revoir!

Stage One: made it Cheyenne!

So, this is my first post, but I am not yet to Cali. I am, however, on my way out there and have officially made it to Cheyenne, Wyoming and staying in a lovely room. Thank God I finally made it through Nebraska...omg, soo long of a drive through that state. Anyway, time for bed and shall continue on my journey tomorrow!
